The only various thing today was the weather, the route was dull and flat and lead near wheat fields. There was three hours when I didn’t see anyone only the empty wasteland. These occasions makes people start thinking…
The weather was very various, sometimes it rained, sometimes it rained hard, sometimes the sun was shining. There was also storm-wind sometimes.
I arrived to the center square of Carrión de los Condes in the right time. The celebratory march just begun. I have a linger video about it, but I can not upload it somehow. Later I will try it again.
I was lucky with the pilgrim accomodation, the lower level just got full before I arrived, so on the second floor I got a lower bed.
I had a long talk with a yoga trainer while we were having dinner. He is doing the Camino in yoga tempo in 2 month. I gave him my blog’s address, I am looking forward to his comments.
I slept really bad last night. I think that I’m at an emotional low point now. On one hand, I really miss everybody at home – it’s true that I travel a lot but I don’t stay away that much at once – on the other hand, there was a really big contrast between today’s pilgrim accommodation and Al Ain hotel a month ago. I couldn’t sit on my bad because it was a bunk bed and there was no common room only the terrace where it was very cold.
The weather was very bad all day, the wind was blowing and raining several times.
What made my day a bit was a little Hostel (www.hostalmoratinos.es) and restaurant what I found in the morning in Moratinos. It was built and operated by a German couple who, after visiting the Camino, decided to settle there. The order starts by asking where you came from and they are trying to communicate with you in your own language. In my case, they did not succeed, but the wife told me that the only Hungarian word she knows is “fries”. Finally, someone who knows other words than “bless you”. For breakfast I had grapes and freshly squeezed orange juice and the internet was very good too
Today was the first day, when starting was really hard. There were a couple of reasons for this, first this was the best accomodation so far, comfortable, new room above a gas-station in a motel. Outside the wind is howling,it’s about 6 degrees and physically I am not in my top form. Honestly, I calculated if I would rest for a day, how much should I walk per day later. After that I pulled my self together by 8:45 and got started towards the wasteland.
I regreted several times during the day that I have got started, the wind blew so hard, that I felt it would like to tear off my backpack. The bad weather made it impossible to have outdoor rest, because I felt cold, but this way I walked faster. The sun began to shine in the afternoon, but the wind didn’t decrease, but at least my temperature sensation was better.
The best part of the day was(of course if we don’t count the arrival to the accomodation) when I had to enter a battered restaurant (the photo is below, Casa Blanca), because I couldn’t hold it back (this operation is not recommended headwind in the open air). The place amazed me. I can not write down what I felt. There was only one guest, a very old woman was drinking her coffee, the music coming out from the speakers loudly was Viennese Waltz, on one of the old chairs a huge dog was sleeping in front of an old computer. The impression was heaped on by the kindness of the bartender. I got tapas besides my orange juice and she instantly brought me the wifi password, when she saw my telephone. It was not a suprise when I saw the wifi password was filosofia. The atmosphere of the place was catching with its old-fashioned and I can say crappy furniture. It made a deep impression on me.
Unfortunately a little tragedy happened a couple of minutes later. It turned out, that I will not be the one to invent the rolling backpack. However I thought about it a couple of days earlier, because of my shoulder and back pain. And what do I see now: the german retired lady, who is using high technology is pulling her rolling backpack.
Today was the hardest so far. Mainly because of the storm-wind and because of the path in Leon. The most important is that I am here and if my legs also agree in 9 days I will arrive in Santiago.
